I believe one of the prime instigators of Banda Black Rio died several years
back; not that I wouldn't welcome a return of those players in some updated
context. The one US-released CD of 70's BBR material is crucial.

In fact, one of the songs from that CD provided a sample for a track
on my first record that I put together with Chris O'Grady:

The song is Merguez Frite, named after my favorite Parisian street food
gutbomb...

As much as the style and substance of Banda Black Rio is appealing, for me
the amazing musicianship has great appeal. Imagine the tightest of James
Brown's bands, and then have them play Brazilian funk jazz. Even as I love
techno, I love the sound of 8 or 10 people who are able to play as tight
as a MPC2000 ....
