i think erik van den broek, just like orlando voorn, always have been
somewhat extraverted producers, technically pretty good, but when it
comes
to an own sound - they really don't deliver.
Well they did not started a whole new subgenre however Subsonic
Soundscape was released in an area that not a lot of people did
electro, maybe some guys from Detroit but not half the techno scene.
How do you wanna define 'your own sound' if it is just a typical
Orlando Voorn record, yeah Voorn does have his own sound and so did
v.d. broek but less. The reason v.d. Broek never got big had nothing to
do with his musical quality...
they more seem to look to potential musical growing areas,
but mostly always following, never really innovating
isn't that the case of 99% of every musician in the world, even in the
techno/house/electro/broken beat/d&b/etc scene.... and innovating does
not equals good quality.

I find that hard to believe if his DAT material was really that good
then
why resort to creating
trance to make money?
I bought Subsonic Soundscapes from SG when it first came out and gave
it
away only to come
across another copy some years later and passed on it.
The stuff on Shiver is a little overrated in my opinion although I
can see
why it has huge
appeal
