I'm saddened to see all the mudslinging in the Metro Times article.
Maybe it's the wisdom and perspective of age, but all I know is that
every May in Hart Plaza there is something that nothing else that
happens on the North American continent can touch with a ten foot pole.
Something that is so soul-nourishing that I cannot understand how
anyone that has the means and wherewithal to be there would not go
(schedule announced or otherwise). I would come to Detroit just for
the after-parties alone, not to mention the atmosphere - to revel
in the birthplace of this music we all love the world over, and the
hospitality, warmth, "realness" and friendship of the people of Detroit -
some of the finest people in the world that I've ever had the pleasure of
meeting.
"Movement is selling buttons for $3 apiece to raise money."
$3! A dollar a day! I consider $75 for 3 days/nights of Sonar to be a
bargain ...
Imagine if everyone bought a badge ... 500,000+ times $3 ...
Imagine if someone printed up chartreuse pink "I support Derrick May"
stickers ... and sold them for $1 ... and gave the money to Movement ...
This is our festival, folks ... dig into your pockets a little, or else
see it go bye-bye. If it wasn't clear from that Metro Times article,
you're not paying attention.
Now then. Where do we, the flocks arriving from far-off lands just in time
for the festival, get these buttons?
