Echo... echo... echo... F*cking brilliant party, despite some basic divide
between the punters (mostly female) and the industry types (mostly male) who
wouldn't touch a dancefloor with a ten foot pole. Seriously, this didn't
amount to much of a detraction at all (probably for obvious reasons). Those
who were there to be seen hung out by the bar, and those who were there to
groove cut their sh*t up on the dancefloor. A really brilliant selection it
was. I spotted that one Clash disco-y song (I think it's 'Magnificent
Seven'), The Cure and Kate Bush, as Rob said, Depeche Mode's 'Enjoy the
Silence', Moroder's 'The Chase', and a whole load of other songs that I only
know by sound or am not remembering, and a whole lot more I'd love to find
out more about (volume 2-10004573897583274580432, anyone?). ;)

DeGiorgio came on and started with Deep Burnt, followed it up with a mixture
of cleaner Detroit house sounds and slightly east coast-y house tunes, then
out of nowhere, at about -10 (speed, not pitch, remember this is Ableton)
'The Bells' bassline came in, and looped for ages without the actual Bells
coming in. Tres Demented vocals surfaced on top for a moment, then faded
out, then some older Probish acid thing joined in (I think it may have been
Three 'o Three by Public Energy) without any of the low end, and kind of
hovered in the background for about 5 minutes, as it built up to the
'actual' Bells, and then stayed in throughout the whole 'Bells-ing'. To be
honest, this sounds a lot better than it actually played out. The bassline
went on for too long before anything interesting happened, and then the
whole mixture just sounded a bit cluttered when it culminated, but this was
the only moment where I questioned what was happening all night, and cheers
to him for taking a risk with it! Rob and I barely tore ourselves away from
there around 1:30, despite it being a school night, mutual illness, and a
daunting battle with London transport to follow (which turned out OK, for
those who are concerned). No idea when Andrew finally left, and hope he is
alive today. ;) For what it's worth, I suffered a great deal this Friday,
and it was entirely worth it to enjoy the tunes presented. Great night! Mr.
Bond, we salute you! :)
