I think that that's the most likely explanation, and it would be fairly exciting although I can see potentially negative consequences for the world of vinyl pressing and distribution if not necessarily for actual producers themselves. Could it be argued that Apple will be stepping into the shoes of mp3.com if they go ahead with this?
And what are Apple Records going to say about it? I can't imagine them being very happy at all!
