[EMAIL PROTECTED] i think your name is peter right? ok...you make a rational argument...the argument that he could 'single handedly transform the american scene' is not...nor is it true...moby could transform the american scene before jeff mills...but, if jeff mills spends the majority of his time in europe playing shows and throwing festivals it's because that's who gives him the most support...when americans buy as much of his music as europe does...i'm sure he'll spend more time here...that's business...as far as the community goes...they're never satisfied...if he was a perfect hero they would still complain...or they would be silent...the sentiments 'against' jeff mills are far stronger than the sentiments 'for' the very gallant efforts of derrick may for putting up his own money to make the movement festival... what makes this a community?...do they call radio stations? do they mail letters to congress so they can have festivals and venues? or do they just collect records, go to clubs to see said artists and make music themselves? the people in this community treat each other like sh*t most of the time and totally ignore each other the rest...i think alex mentioned the unrecognized producers...let me say this...this so called community 'could' be the answer to the big-shots ignoring the little guys, but the 'community' ignores them too!

To simplify my previous post in light of the last couple posts: I sort of see this issue as comparable to the difference between socialism and capitalism. The capitalists head over to Europe where the capital is at for the dance music industry. The socialists are community driven and are in it primarily for the general welfare and progression of the local community. Of course there are many in-betweens, but underground music scenes have traditionally avoided capitlist structures- sometimes as a philosophical reaction against the state of the mainstream music industry, and sometimes as an involuntary action due to lack of resources. When it comes down to business, there are many opposing viewpoints both within and outside the underground community. I think the opinions in this thread have been reflecting those various philosophies of the dance community and are all worthy of consideration. >
