Naturally, it's a taste thing. I appreciate 'body & soul' style NY
house a
la Clausell, Krivit, Kervorkian and Osunlade in a different way to
say, what
most of us call techno.
ah, but there's a point at which though (this may be blasphemy to some
here) that the whole Joe Claussell super organic "spiritual" house can
get too watered down and wank-off-ish to me. It's got too much stuff
in it or something, and in the process of trying to say so much, it (to
me) says very little. And you'll see the kind of things i like to play
and mix so believe me i am sympathetic to classic disco/funk and even
the occasional vocal house track, but sometimes the Body & Soul thing,
it *CAN AT TIMES* just disappear up it's own... uh.. speaker?
Francois K. is much more my style, and Osunlade to a lesser extent.
(only heard him DJ once, and his own records vary widely) But that's
just my preference. I don't think the Clausell things date
particularly well either. Still i've never experienced a Body & Soul
party there firsthand, just heard the mixes and records... I'm sure
if you're feeling him on the dancefloor in the right environment, it
could make more sense?? hhrmm
just a counterpoint, cheers
