i said i liked the record you jerks. even that it might be one of my
favorites this year. i'm sure mj was great live, sorry i havent seen him
yet, sounds wicked. i think he's a good producer. i was not dissing him, i
was not insulting anybody who is wild about the record, i was just stating
my opinion (that i'm not totally wild about it) you fascists. when others
presume to state my opinion for me, when it's actually not my opinion, i
feel compelled to correct them. when i wake up and read tristan proclaiming
it undeniably record of the year....excuuuuuuusseeeee me!! it's deniable.
the music that does it for you doesnt necessarily do it for me and vice
versa. i can tell you why and we can discuss it. thats what the list is here
for. like i said, hype is natural when a bunch of people like something, but
dissenting opinions when people don't agree are equally natural! i don't
disagree just for the hell of it. i'm not a big fan of the d'n'b sounding
bassline in that mj record, and the overall sound of it just doesnt hit me
deep, it's way fun, i'm gonna buy it, but go figure, it's a personal thing.
it doesnt mean i'm an elitist. i like plenty of stuff which is more obvious
and popular than mj, like ur, drexciya, other stuff which is "hyped" like
unit4, metro area, etc. hype sucks regardless of whether i like the music or
not, it encourages mindless consumption. i realize it is unavoidable. i
don't think my opinion is more important than anybody else's, but it's
worthy of being heard just like yours. i'm not an "elitist" if i don't agree
with you, don't personally insult me. i don't even make proclamations about
"record of the year" or presume everybody shares my opinion, i specifically
qualify it as my own opinion and feelings. no tristan, not "everyone will
love it" and there is nothing wrong with those who don't. people like things
for all sorts of different reasons.
the 3 chairs stuff i've heard is great, but i was glad to hear robin speak
up and say maybe the album could have just been a single 12" (i havent heard
the album yet). i don't want to hear just positive opinions, if somebody
doesnt like it for some reason, i want to hear about that too before i spend
my money on it. like i wish i'd heard before i bought expensive imported amp
fiddler records that i found lacking -- from all the hype, i figured it was
a sure bet. god forbid somebody disagree with the mob and the hype. in my
mind this list is just a bunch of people shooting the sh!t about records. i
don't take offense until people start taking things personally, assuming
ulterior motives, making personal insults. if your opinion makes you feel
justified in hyping something up, somebody else's opinions makes them
equally justified to deflate the hype. i like the record plenty, but since i
dont agree it's "clearly" record of the year, 1 day after it's released, in
freaking july, i must have some hidden agenda?? you two live in detroit and
london respectively, i live in freaking north carolina. i'd appreciate it if
you assume i speak honestly about my taste when i state my opinion, i'm not
emotionally tied to these artists, to club scenes, i'm not an elitist, i am
just a music fan.
f you very much wankers!
