i wasnt trying to say mj doesnt deserve praise you know. but i don't care if
the whole list proclaims it record of the year, i can still state my
opinion. derek p may be a great dj and a beautiful human being but he doesnt
know me and i dont appreciate being called an elitist and "to get over
myself" just because i state my opinion. i complained about hype because
tristan had set the record up as so obviously incredibly wonderful, i have
to feel like i'm tearing it down just because i don't completely agree. i
did not mean i am against it just because it is being "hyped" (which it isnt
even...), i meant it was hard to offer a differing opinion since his had big
flashing neon lights around it. i'm glad for almost anybody's success who is
making techno, but that doesnt mean i can't still criticize their work,
gimme a break. i like plenty of things that are hyped, taste is taste hype
or not! stop assuming ulterior motives (and you call me jaded!). when you
set something way up high on a pedestal, it's a long way down to hear a
differing opinion. it's a lot easier to discuss music when you allow in your
wording that other people might feel differently and don't try so hard to
"sell" it -- do you want to discuss, or do you just want to broadcast your
opinion and hear "amens"? i realize tristan likes to word his praise as if
greatness is undeniable, he was just as emphatic about amp last year, and
that's fine, it's part of his charm, just let me disagree if i do disagree
-- sometimes i dont! i didnt react strongly, i feel comfortable talking
about music with tristan, i was just talking...i didnt mean to offend
anybody, but apparently i'm a playerhater and an elitist now. meanwhile,
ironically, it's acceptable to insult ur even tho they deserve 100 times the
respect, they've earned it. gimme a break. sorry to tarnish the glowing
praise but if you can offer your opinion i can offer mine, it's pretty gd
simple.
this is the 4th time i've been attacked by amazingly emotional fans for
sharing any critical thought, 1st about amp fiddler, then matthew dear, then
planet e pricing, now this. don't any of you have any real problems?
well people have problems if they are taking this list that seriously and
emotionally. derek and tristan's explanations for their praise is all fine,
good to read, very earnest, but i don't need the insults from derek -- i
have absolutely no problem with either of your opinions. and i don't call
you names for not being crazy about the music i really love. i understand
derek is friends with mj and matt dear and wants to stick up for them, i do
the same for friends of mine, but i'm not who you think i am you got the
wrong guy.
I've not been this excited about anyone in techno since I don't know when,
so perhaps that will make my hype a bit more credible, or maybe it's just
more hype. I see the value in comparison. It may not be fair to say one
i'm glad you're excited about it! hype exists for a reason, third time i've
said it now...i know others who think the record flat out "sucks" and
they're not "elitists" for thinking that, they like what they like and dont
like what they dont. so what. let people speak their mind. sorry i said
anything about hype, it obviously makes people very very sensitive and jump
to conclusions.
