i used to buy music that is termed as 'future jazz' by the likes of seiji and nubian mindz, but have lost touch with what has been going on with that scene. does anyone know if is there anything interesting coming out of that musical direction, especially output that is obviously 313-influenced, like nubian mindz's album, 'new world chaos' (one of my prized long-players)?
i know what you mean... what happened? seemed the combo of UR and Reinforced Recs kind of themes drown in the deluge of samey nu-soul-ish house with some 'broken' elements, but by then it seems like it just kind of fell apart.. or at least the part of it i liked i just quit scouring for. The Domu stuff still is okay here and there, dunno what happened to Archive but seems like some of the quality control went a little south IMHO.. also there was a good Russ Gabriel full length on Emoticon worth checking (The Other Side Project, v.1) a good statement and plenty of techno future jazz groove to it, and Yotoko WET INK had some bright spots. But other than that I dunno.. somebody school me if i'm way off target here.
also, since my clubbing days are more or less at an end (kids, mortgage, enlarged liver . . . the usual reasons), i am more into home-listening material - the classic mid-90s sound especially (b12, nuron, black dog) - so, besides the upcoming compliation on regal/new religion and the vince watson album on headspace, is there anything else on the horizon of that ilk?
I wouldn't say it's a mid-90's sound, but check out the new Ross 154 CD called "Strike" on Delsin... if you like the above, you'll probably like this. It's pretty deep. Good stuff. Also if you didn't get a hold of Biosphere - Substrata and/or Man WIth A Movie Camera back then, i recently re re-discovered those. Hmmm, what else..
