Play is not a techno record for sure, but I'm not really talking about
that record specifically, it was way before that release Rob that he
made the switch - let me have a dig around for some titles to see if I
can make my point any clearer...I do remember that it was his G.O.D
phase and it had a really bright cover....

No I'm not suggesting that at all, I'm just saying that Techno is a lot
wider and contains many different flavours, personally I'd never pin it
down to a rigid set of values like drum patterns etc but I can see why
people do and feel the need to, check out the argument on Discogs about
"What Electro is" for an example of where I don't want to go with this
:) I realise it's a pretty hard position to defend...

It's a tricky one Rob because it depends on how you really define
Techno, I personally see it as a very wide spectrum but the gripe I
have is people started to treat it as "dirty" word rather than being
proud of it but that may just be me Rob.

He made a defo move from calling his stuff Techno to Electronica in

90's, saying in many interviews that he hasn't made a "Techno record
for a long time"...

The point I was trying to make badly is people started calling their
music something else because they believed calling it Techno we
