I didn't intend to start a Juan bashing thread. I only saw him once.
Everyone has a bad day once in a while and it was a long time ago. Just
told it how I saw it. Doesn't make him a bad DJ. If anything it actually
made it a better night in a peverse kinda way!

Didn't Juan play Lost recently? Anyone go? Maybe they can boost his
rating..

I've seen Juan play several times and to be honest, I don't think I've
heard him play a set as poor as some people who've commented recently
have heard. In fact, I only started to doubt Atkins' talents as a DJ
after I joined the 313 list about 4(?) years ago!

Maybe I've got such a duff ear for a mix (I'm not the world's greatest
mixer myself!) that I actually think Atkins is alright! ;-)

More likely, with him playing a lot more often in the last 5 years or
so, he has fewer off nights than he used to...?

But aside from all that, the perceived 'quality' of his performances,
like those of any other DJ, will get at least a psychological boost from
the diversity and the quality (even if that is subjective) of the actual
tracks he plays, and on the whole, I've usually found his selection very
interesting indeed.

My tuppeny'orth.

Can I just say that I've only once heard Juan DJ and enjoyed it? I'm
not doubting for a moment the various posts that have gone up where
peepz have seen him and he hasn't been good, it's just maybe sometimes
he can play well
- either that or I was just in a very receptive mood when I saw him. I
was quite sober etc. though.
