Funny because that happens with a lot of "pop" stars now - publicists sit in on interviews. The really big names even tape their own interviews now. It stems from very protective publicists..... and a general anxiety with tabloid sensationalism. We don't have a tabloid culture here so it hasn't really manifested itself. Puffy had about 3 females from his label sitting in a few years ago. Not even discreetly but right next to him. It's a bad idea. I did a very big hip-hop star and his publicist interjected rudely when I asked an innocent question about a collaborator - that drew my attention to there being bad blood there. I should not have known otherwise! Silly methinks!

The free booze thing doesn't tweek me. The having a
chaperone part does. How can you get quality material
such as interviews/comments/photos when an extra party
is standing right there like some sort of translator.

Being my sarcastic self I probably would have
interviewed one of the chaperones 'so wuz up with the
shadow dance?'

Perhaps the Pax. peeps have an explanation. I can
understand not wanting press in the artist tent
hounding people-artists are they to be schmoozed too.
Plus, I remember from other events people would pull a
magazine out of their ass just to get a badge that
lead to a free hotdog-which was annoying to people who
were there to work.

Press is always a sticky thing to handle.

As long as I'm complaining -- what was up with
banning press from the
free booze tent? Past festivals a press pass gave
you all access. This
year, a press pass just got you inside the fence for
photos, and you
had to schedule interviews with a Paxahau flack.
Paxahau should know
that a well lubricated press is a happy press!

I'll post up a link to my photos when my editor gets
done picking the
ones he wants for Grooves.
