standouts from my last purchases:
Afro Psychopathz feat. Timothy Baldwin - Angel (Sunshine Enterprises)
Deep downtempo house from Andrew Edward Brown and Robb Scott featuring
Timothy Baldwin's sweat soul voice. Apparently, Timothy isn't with us
anymore and I'd really like to know if any other tunes with him are
available. Best cuts are pretty stripped down - some raw sounding strings
samples with a snare breaks and light bassdrum kicks, and Moog-y bass
wobble. Baldwin's voice is a bit like a mid-70s Stevie Wonder.
The Trevor Goodchilde mix is a piano led slow smoldering make-out session
tune. The Frankie Valentine mix is definitely a 718 Session/Body & Soul
track - breezy and loose and lower tempo - piano and guitar with live
sounding drums. The last cut, Black by Birth remix, is more broken wobbly
bass - lots of low end on this, piano replaces by warm Larry Heard style
pad washes, and a "Spanish" guitar. Nice to have a record that fits
different moments in the night. Really like this one.
Sileni -Twitchy Droid Leg remixes (Offshore)
This one has the Titonton Duvante remix that just kills it. Offshore is a
tip-top drum & bass label but Titonton takes it into a broken beat acid
house hip-hop thing. Going to hunt down the rest of Offshore's discog
because it's good to hear drum & bass that pushes the frontier again.
these should be arriving this week:
the Bugz's new LP "Back in the Doghouse"along with the Happy Days BITA boot
12" and the Move Aside 12"
Max Cole - Mo High (WahWah 45s) a bit of a samba/capoeira rhythm with nice
Rhodes chimes over the chopped up beat and some fat bass. The flip has
more upbeat production - a little more dancefloor groove.
