I meant more the midi structures and sounds Robin. I somehow feel he might have had the parts for years (even if not actually 30 years!) and maybe even recorded them, but that when the chance to do another LP came along, the decision was made to re-record things so that it fitted into our quantising-obsessed times!
This is just speculation mind - although (your taste for it aside), the overall 'feel' does sound pretty stuck in the 80s I think many would agree.
