i'm not sure what exactly can change this. one of my ideas is to more
closely align dance music with the world of underground hiphop
(another underground music here in the US but one that is taken more
seriously) by highlighting the similarities in roots, production
techniques, and other aspects of the music. i feel like the music of J
Dilla will be a big uniting force here, as him and some of his cohorts
like Waajeed are pretty darn "techno" anyway.

That's an interesting point. Over here (at least in terms of Manchester) there's a link between the two through disco and possibly through broken beat (both "genres" used more as styles than genres there).

An interesting thing to see is that Trusme's new LP (which is good, worth a check) is on Fat City who are more of a hip-hop label than house.

I think it's possible the hip-hop/house alignment could become stronger over the next few years. Not sure on the effect over here but in the US that could be important.
