Frustrating producer for me, in that his live performances have failed to match what he's capable of on his releases. I love "Perpetuum" and "Excentri", and the Robert Henke "Studies for Thunder" release is also excellent.

Yes it was from the Basic Channel stable but the side of the record I'm talking about had a great slowed down, deep, icy feel to it. At the time I wasn't sure how intentional that was; by which I mean I enjoyed it most at 33rpm but I wasn't sure if it was meant to be played that way - at 45 it sounded more like previous stuff plus the other side I was fairly sure was 45. However in looking the Discogs number up I notice it's listed there at 33 one side / 45 the other. And he subsequently did more stuff that sounded the same (with no doubts on the speed) so I guess this was intentional by him and no discovery by me! Either way it was a biggy for me at the time. > From: Frank Glazer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 07 April 2008 21:31 > To: 313 > Subject: (313) monolake > > while i admire the dude's monodeck engineering skillz, i've found that > what i've listened to by him has been painfully forgettable. > > yet, people consistently recommend him, so i'm curious... is there any > monolake release that holds up to the relatively high standards we > have on this list?
