I don't feel the same way about his output as you Kent but I'm also not sure I'd agree with the concept over emotion idea either, it just seems to determislistic to suggest that this is the case.

It's always difficult to find emotion when you're working with
machines in a room by yourself.  A techno producer is like an old
school photographer -- you make the music, but don't see how it
develops until you see how a dance floor reacts.

This is just wrong :) I can't and don't believe you think the above is actually true, do you?
