Hi, I’m not sure if this is a cry for help, a rant or all of the above.
We have a pretty big database, with a couple of hundred users, running fairly well on 4D v12 in an all Mac environment. Over 100 gb of data and indexes. This is a mission-critical database for two multinational companies. We have done all the work needed to move it from v12 to v13 and we were planning on going through version 13 before taking the leap to v15 around the end of this year. However, we’ve been seeing problems with El Capitan (OS X 10.11) and now with Sierra (10.12). They seem to be show stoppers. So now we’re thinking of making the jump straight to v15x. The concept of skipping so many versions has me scared. I’ve been working on 4D since 1987 and I would never have imagined such a leap. Perhaps I’m too conservative. In any case, Apple is relentless in releasing new OS versions which seem to always break 4D. I hate to be forced into new OS and 4D versions just to remain compatible. They invariably provoke bugs. Is anyone else in a similar situation? What did you do / are you doing? Thanks in advance Paul PS: I’ve been developing with 4D for nearly 30 years. I have no illusions about this. Maybe I just want to be reassured that we can take the leap to v15x and know it will run smoothly... ********************************************************************** 4D Internet Users Group (4D iNUG) FAQ: http://lists.4d.com/faqnug.html Archive: http://lists.4d.com/archives.html Options: http://lists.4d.com/mailman/options/4d_tech Unsub: mailto:[email protected] **********************************************************************
