Have not had time to explore the suggestions offered. Although I have no previous experience with SQL, I look forward to experimenting with Miyako's sample code to sort data permanently. I have considered, and will probably implement Chip's suggested alternative to sort data programmatically before presenting it to the user, which would not be very difficult to incorporate into my modular, generic search code. But I was still curious as to whether or not this old functionality of 4D Tools could be replicated programmatically within subsequent versions of 4D. Thanks again.
