I cannot find a way to do this programmatically. I am referring to Outside the data file/In data file/in record.
Get external data path either returns a path or an empty string. The empty string provides a hint in the it is “probably not set to Outside the data file, but is inconclusive and requires testing a specific record field. I would like to know specifically which option is selected in the structure.
