The table for which an encryption key pair was *supposed* to have been generated and saved (in the trigger - so it would always happen...). The trigger check boxes in the structure were not on.
So the trigger was never called, and the key pair was never created. When I tried to encrypt a blob with an empty key - error The error **could** be cleared... but I eventually found it.
