You're quite right. To my knowledge none of the kernels with version
greater than 2.6.21 is as good as 2.6.21, audio-wise.

Depending on your system you might get better results with 2.6.24 or
2.6.26. As you point out, I've built 32-bit version of them, but no
64-bit version yet.

True enough. However most users might find kernels 2.6.24 and 2.6.26
reasonably stable.
