Just to be sure, are you running a pure 2.1 or did you upgrade
something?

As long as you are running a pure 2.1 the system should be stable no
matter if you use the 32bit or 64bit version.

I would be a bit surprised if the 32bit install behaves better than
the 64bit one, but it might be possible, so it might be worth trying.
