For my hardware it might be more stable, because of latest applications and e.g. the actual official release comes with an kernel-rt 2.6.25. It's before the broken ex 2.6.26, but more up to date than the self patched kernels that are 2.6.24 or the 64 Studio's default kernel. Anyway, the 2.6.25 kernel didn't solve my trouble, but I wished to test it. I like to have Suse too, because to know about applications. They had rakkarak and some mixing consoles that were not available for any stable audio and MIDI Linux, because they required the broken JACK 0.109. While 64 Studio used a stable JACK 0.103, Suse used a unstable 0.109. Depending to what you will do, both versions seems to have there pro and contra (before there was 0.116). What I like to have is an interchange of communities, e.g. Suse and 64 Studio, to learn from each other, but when I asked for things I don't know about Suse and tried to bring in, what I learned from the audio mailing lists, the replies become grotesque. > What's going on here? (probably we all are aware of the message from > paul davis regarding jackd 109) There was a flame war with high and mighty bashes, because I said that the "pro-audio" applications for Suse from the repositories often aren't fine, and they laughed about me, also someone from Packman, they called me a liar, resp. noob, at the moment JACK 0.116.1 available from the Packman repository makes Suse 11.0 complete broken for JACK, even when you downgrade JACK again, it will keep broken. We were talking in a forum about 11.1, but I exactly referenced to this behaviour for Suse. But let's share information about 64 Studio ;). Realtime kernels ex 2.6.26 are fine for 32bit Releases? Should I try a 32bit install for my 64bit hardware? Something I often asked. > It may well be that currently actually there is *no* combination which is > reasonable stable and reasonable up-to-date. At the moment I won't go on with my Suse 11.1 RC and the 64 Studio Etch-Lenny-Mix on my machine. I would like to test my 64 Studio 2.1 vanilla and the vanilla with a kernel 2.6.24-rt, I've got this kernel too. BUT I would klike to test it with JACK 0.116.1. I guess it won't be possible to compile it for Etch, without dependency conflikts that needs to be solved by updating to Lenny. For Suse 11.0 I thought I only had to install 0.116.1 from the repository, but unfortunately the package from the Packman repository damaged my Suse 11.0. Maybe I can solve it by the replies I got to a request at LAD List and JACK dev list. Once I have a stable audio and MIDI Linux I will backup it and even if there will be newer versions, I won't replace such a Linux, I only will add new Linux. For the moment Suse 11.0 is my hope, I would test JACK today, but as I wrote above, I have to fix my Suse, because it's broken now. I also would like to have Studio 3.0 ASAP ;). I have free partitions for Windows, a friend needs GEMA free music from the web, because I can't make music at the moment. I'll test JACK 0.116, give the information John Rigg and Paul Davis were asking for and right after I made this report, I will install XP and Cubase. I will test any recommended Linux, but I will have a machine for production. Maybe Linux is fine with JACK 0.116. No new BIOS at 00:53 12-15-2008. Something I'm looking for a few times each day.
