What is the error?  Are you customizing those files that you mentioned?

How are you backing up?  Perhaps there is something in your process that

Is this a machine that was cleanly installed and does not have a lot of
3rd party repositories installed?  If this is not an accurate reflection
of your system, perhaps a clean install would be a good idea.
