Kevin provided an excellent tutorial on Avidemux that got me started.  I then
went and made a quick movie with voice on it.  The question I asked myself was
--  If one cuts and pastes a clip will the audio stay in tact?  My answer was
quick to come YES.
So now I feel comfortable putting together a sequence.  Both Ralf and Kevin
have made it clear there is much more to be done.
So I did some reading -- a big mistake.   There appears to be two major steps
left.  One is authoring which must be different than the cut and paste I did.
The other is burning a DVD.  So when I go to Auto in avidemux I see a whole lot
of things that I think are suppose to be coding things.  Do I need them? or are
they chrome on the car?
I guess at this point I am truly hoping someone like Kevin, Daniel Or Ralf
will be able to steer me down the right track.  I'm sure once I've made the
journey on one I'll be able to expand my capabilities with little to no hand
holding.
Thanks in advance.  Don't know about you folks but I'm begining to have fun!

Please don't start making changes at random, since this makes remote
problem-solving almost impossible.  The defaults will have been chosen so
that they work reasonably well for most people, so I think we should run with
them for the time being.

I can make guesses as to most of these, but they might be wrong, so rather
than mislead you, I'll send you to the app's website.  The wiki has a lot of
info on it:

and there are forums:
http://www.avidemux.org/admForum
where cleverer people than I will probably give you better answers.

Unfortunately, it won't be published for another month :-(
