Hi Albert you said: *So when I go to Auto in avidemux I see a whole lot of things that I think are suppose to be coding things.*
My newb error checker suggests you meant 'codecs'. The other responses don't really help you with deciding how to export your video and choose the appropriate codec and container. There is some culture at work undermining a pure technical portrayal of video types and methods, but you have as a personal videographer many choices. As a professional videographer your choices may be limited and determined by delivery and playback requirements. In fact the number of choices may demonstrate some inefficiency in science to eliminate formats, or merely a period of rapid proliferation. The extent of engineering in this matter, unfortunately is to try them all out and 'see' with ones faulty cartesian apparatus the result of your export and make a determination. The amount of evolution apparent by the development of human visual cortex would suggest that vision requires more brain, but I contest this to imply it has merely become more specialized and not requiring the involvement of the frontal, which in the case of audio processing in humans, is still involved. And maybe why we audio engineers can agree on fewer formats. ;) In my audacious prescience, I will intuit like an eskimo that your next step is to decide how to export and what settings you will choose. Unlike an eskimo I don't think you will in your own hands carve the case and whittle the code to make your own so this may like Kevins previous -v explanation be limited to the choices of a tool specific. In concept however from our armchairs of Herman Miller fashioning, the prime determiner is the playback method; a computer, a family style DVD entertainment system made in faux wood stained particle board, a playstation portable, a cellphone, a webpage with embedded flash player, a generic 4gb media playback thing from China whose name is unknown, an Indamixx, an apple TV, a TIVO Freevo system, or perhaps THX and Lucas certified 3D theaters for mass intelligence elimination. Or maybe you make movies for a device that humankind has yet to impress greasy thumbprints upon whose operation is with the mind and whose plaback remains consistent at relativistic velocities?
