finally I managed to compile the kernel following your instructions! Thanks
a lot for that, everything went fine.

I also found out how to check for your currently installed alsa version:

mar...@64studio:~$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.20.
mar...@64studio:~$

While updating alsa I ran into problems which I describe in another mail to
the list. Also the rtirq script does not work, again another mail.
