Seriously, though, how do you convince an organization to try OSS when it's already drinking the Kool-Aid?

I don't know all the details about LLU's change, but I have to wonder if it was made simply because somebody didn't know Linux. If MS is the "devil you know" or you want to hire trained monkeys, that's cool: I can respect that, as long as you don't try to pretend it's the best solution overall.

To the linuxphiles on the list, when might you consider using MS in lieu of *nix? Just curious...

Wow, thats so informative. So what they're saying is that Microsoft
provides a feature long sought after in the Proprietary world. Support.

Saw a great article about why google and others use linux yesterday. If
you didn't read it already here it is.

Maybe the motards at LLU read this MS testimony on switching from Linux to Exchange 2003: http://www.microsoft.com/hk/sia/search2.aspx?CaseID=245

From the article:

"After migrating from Linux to Exchange, our IT administration workload has been reduced by an astonishing 90%," explains Chiu. "To help me quickly resolve issues, I have access to a centralized knowledge base through the Microsoft Web site and local customer hotline. System downtime is a thing of the past."

don't do it :) hehe

j/k have you looked at alternatives like open-xchange.org and kolab?

Exhcange is nice, but it locks you into the outlook client or web
access. (I know there is evolution on linux, thats what I am using on
our exchange server) but its not as elegant as it could be.

I'll soon be working on a 15 domain xmail to Exchange 2003 migration.

Anyone have any advice, resources, or contacts that might point me in the right direction? Someone else pointed to me to EIU.edu. It seems as if they've just finished something like this.
