This is another reason why I would go with ubuntu before debian.  Debian does 
tend to have ancient "stable" packages.  It is possible to get the latest 
stuff if you understand the concepts of changing your sources.lst and 
pinning.  But Ubunut seems to have a much more active and up to date 
community behind it.
