Last night, David and I were goofing around with some Atheros-based Netgear 802.11g cards that we got at Frye's.
He popped it in his Debian laptop and recognized it no problems. I, on the other hand, had a more difficult time getting it to properly work with my Xubuntu system. I found this ironic, considering the fact that Ubuntu (the gnome version) never had any problems with this laptop. Also, Xubuntu didn't have tools like "module-assistant" I finally just dropped the Debian netinstall disk in and reinstalled everything. While it's downloaded everything, I started bookmarking some good newbie links for Debian, such as this one: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=224547 http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?p=2502408 Anyone else (besides Jimmy Tu) in the Orange County area? If so, give David or I a call. We often hang out at Totally Coffee (1525 Mesa Verde Dr., Costa Mesa). They've got free wifi. David showed me a few commands that I hadn't known about, particularly the CONTROL-R command that easily find commands in your history starting with certain letters. This was helpful in scrolling quickly through my last dpkg commands. Another cool Debian tool he showed me was 'module-assistant'. That really makes adding/removing modules a breeze.
