This is not good...

Oh yeah, and in case you're wondering why I don't just go to a
previous backup, I just (minutes before) nuked my perfect ghost and
partimage images.

I was testing SwissKnife's FAT32 formatting tool on my Maxtor USB hard
drive. It was originally NTFS, I imaged everything, then decided to
test the SwissKniife tool and format the 150GB drive with their
special FAT32. I got a weird error that suggested that Norton's Ghost
9 driver wasn't compatible, so updated the driver, and then formatted
the thing again to NTFS.

bye bye images

Then I booted back up into System Rescue CD and started to image it
again. Thinking that everything would be ok, I cancelled the image
making process and then booted into GParted and started resizing the
NTFS c: (I strunk it like 200 MB). That took two hours to resize and
then it started something again (which I thought was odd - but I
wasn't watching it carefully). At this point I called David Kaiser,
he suggested strace, and here I am!

Oh well, that's how you learn, right?!?
