Love the link :D, but textwrangler is free.  GPL text editors is what he is
specifically looking for.  I have used several KDE editors through the X11
server and darwinports.  As soon as KDE4 comes out running on QT4(it is in
alpha, and doesn't completely work :( ) I will prolly use it a lot more than
I do now!  Kate is a great editor.

I personally use textwrangler for general text editing.  VI for quick
editing from the terminal.  And coda http://www.panic.com/coda for my web
development.
