On the desktop I use kwrite for simple text editing, because it's uh ...
simple. If I was a serious programmer I'd probably use kate.

On the servers I use joe. Mainly because it works like the original
Borland editor, which I used a lot when I did program. While most
people say it's wordstar like, unless you start it in the wordstar-like
mode it's much more like the original Borland editor.

The guy who originally published WordStar was a friend; in fact my most
popular product for the TRS-80 model 1 was the pilot programming
language, which I originally implemented for the TRS-80 for his then
very young son. I sold a lot of copies at early computer shows (anyone
remember the West Coast Computer Faire?) when this little 8-year old
amazed people at how easy it was to program in it <smile>.

Problem was that the guy is more famous for "inventing" the shrink-wrap
license, which of course I hate as much as I liked Wordstar and it's
work-alikes.

(I know wikipedia doesn't credit Seymour for the shrink-wrap license; if
I could find documentation on the 'net I'd add it, but I can't find it,
and wikipedia doesn't like to trust people's memories. Seymour's
company, as I recall, was the first company to use a shrinkwrap
license.)
