hi, i'm quite happy with the 'cpdir' by Kenji Arisawa (thanks, Kenji!) on sources/contrib/arisawa. However, your scripty seems fine, too. Could we add a switch to conform with gnu's cp -au? Just not to overwrite newer files. I don't know there is an option there in 'tar' (I can't see in in tar(1)). At least we have the 'k' modifier, which could help.
