I am going to say that this sounds more like "under-appreciation", as in "I felt under-appreciated", than anything else. Because of the content of this article: https://cloudstreet-dev.github.io/What-We-Lost-When-Unix-Won/ch01-what-won.html . It very convincingly argues that making sure an os is ported to new software is vital for it's survival, which makes people like you, and the work you were doing, of incredible value. [It also claims, very emphatically, that Unix has won, and everybody might-as-well accept that, so in that sense, it's a rather depressing read, so people should approach it with caution.
