yes, that is actually a pretty tight kernel.

And, it may well be that linux will fix all this, but my observation of 
the '500 cooks' phenomenon in linux nowadays is that their ability to 
take in a lot of contributions is very impressive, but it is not 
necessarily improving the kernel.
