Tom, XP SP2 is a series of security updates and a little more. I personally 
installed it almost 3 weeks ago from a CD and have had no problems with it 
whatsoever. If anything it has helped my machine to be more stable and I 
feel more secure. Updates are almost always added at some point to any 
software. There are other members who are using SP2 and some have even 
installed it on their clients machines. As far as what is best that is a 
matter of opinion.
