Hollerith I seem to recall, but since then tremendous progress has been made for computers to control sewing and knitting machines. I saw it done once at a Craft Show where the young woman was making greeting cards with inserted motifs. I found some links for those who like Mrs. Bear might have an interest in this type of "Cottage" industry from home.
