It is something I have always meant to have a closer look at Janet because I don't recognise many of the files in that folder although from memory I think one looks like an MS update file, which may be used to scan your pc when checking for updates but I am not 100% certain. There are a lot of files there relating to online banking and others relating to online scans in particular one of your favourites Bitdefender :-) I tried it earlier in the year when my internet connection was running slow and I suspected a possible virus that Uncle Norton hadn't detected. It turned out to be a faulty modem damaged after an electric storm.
If you right click them and choose properties you will get an idea as to what they are and you should also see the creation date. My usual way of dealing with such files is to move them to another folder called "possible junk" and leave them there for a week or so and if I don't experience any unusual problems I just delete them or you could burn them to a cd if you really want to be cautious. Don't know what the festive pop up screensavers are but our usual friends Ad-aware & Spybot should be able to deal with that? Polar bears eh, they sometimes come and visit me at this time of year, not much of a sense of humour though and their breath stinks of fish! I think I see them on the present Google start page.
