I haven't attempted data retrieval on a notebook hard drive. The only two things can be done to attempt to retrieve data from a hard drive that as *failed*. This does NOT apply to drives where data, or partitions have been accidentally deleted! 1) The freezer trick. 2) Swapping controller boards.
1) You can try putting the drive in a freezer in a ziplock bag. Sometimes this is enough to get the drive to run for a short period of time. You can apply extra cooling while reading the drive. Make sure you dry off any condensation while the drive is running. 2) Swapping controller boards requires another hard drive of the exact same model and revision and size. Remove the good controller off the other drive and swap it on the non-functional drive. !! DOING SO MAY VOID THE WARRANTY OF THE OTHER DRIVE SHOULD THERE BE A SEAL ON THE CONTROLLER BOARD !! No other options exist for recover of drive failure short of taking it to a data recovery specialist. A regular computer technician cannot do this work. It is done in a special laboratory with specialized equipment. It is also very expensive, usually starting at $700 USD. --- In [email protected], "Upon Request" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I have a Gateway 600 Notebook with a swappable hard drive that has > just crashed.
