Well, If you 'toss' the disk in, you could break the disc. It won't
even sit correctly in the drive tray if you 'toss' it.
As for updating, do the usual stuff of, backing up all your important
files. Also, Make sure, you have a backup disc of XP, should something
happen to the original.
As for the Compaq, make sure you have a backup of ME, too.
