I don't run XP (yet) but there are plenty of helpful folk here that do and will
be able to assist.
However, it would be helpful to know what you mean when you say:

Firstly, what notification did you get and who did you receive it from?

download these updates from?

After getting notification I had some Security updates, I downloaded
them and installed on my computer. I am running Windows XP Pro version.
Since then, my computer will no longer finish starting up. I turn the
computer on, it trys to start, gets as far as the blinking line in the
left corner, stops, shuts off, and trys to start again. Just keeps
doing this. I have tried hitting the F12 button and I get the different
modes. I choose Normal, and it starts doing the same thing all over
again. Next time, I hit F2, but there is no help there for me (I am not
very literate when it comes to computers). I am wondering if there is
something on this menu that will get the computer to finish booting up?
