I can only tell you how to get there on my W98 pc so hope it works with XP
Hold down the CTRL key as Windows boots to get to the menu where you can select
Safe Mode - or press
the F8 key repeatedly during booting until you get the same menu.
If this doesn't work maybe someone else here with XP can advise

1. Normal
2. Diskette Drive
3. Hard-Disk Drive C
4. IDE CD-ROM Device.
Is there some way I can get into Safe Mode? Thanks.
