I found a similar problem with an 85 yr old friend of mine who I am helping with his PC. He had Picture It! a Microsoft software. With the help of a well known Bear we found that its not as simple as it seems in that there can be incompatibilities in the software of the recipient of the photos. The solution there was to save the file in another format before opening in Picture It!. It is important therefore for saving it correctly when dowloading from the camera
I Googled for this issue and found a very thorough explanation here: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=293780 - there are several links leading to more information on that page. As I've just bought my first digital camera this is all of interest to me.
