JIM

The point of my mail "Microsoft Updates" was to draw attention to the fact that
if you don't have the product CD you need to be careful which patches you
install, [which I had not understood when installing Microsoft Office Service
Pack 1] where there is a choice.

In a mail I sent to: <[email protected]> Saturday, May 07,
2005 4:14 PM
Subject: Re: [A-1-Computer_Tech] Microsoft Updates you edited an earlier mail
on the same subject:

"But the programs should accept patches of programs that are the same version."

I responded quoting a url and *also* quoting the relevant text from it:

I think the best thing I can do is to give you a url where you can see the
problem I caused.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=160FB267-810B-4B40-BC34-E55E25D07A7E&displaylang=en
 - see below

I should have included that it was Microsoft Office Service Pack 1. I installed
the wrong one for my PC as you will see. It states at the above url that:

"Install Update for Office 2003 (KB885828). To do this, follow these steps:
Download one of the two .exe files by using the links at the bottom of the
page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive.
office2003-kb885828-client-enu.exe:
You should download this file if you have access to your original product
CD-ROM. You might need to provide the installation source during patch
installation if you have previously updated your product.
office2003-kb885828-fullfile-enu.exe:
Download this file if you do not have access to your original product CD-ROM or
if you have experienced problems installing the
office2003-kb885828-client-enu.exe."

I had said in my first mail:

"I downloaded an update this evening Update for Office 2003 (KB885828) as above
and got told that this SKU1CA. CAB file was missing."

The point being that I had already installed the wrong file when installing
Service Pack 1.
