I don't have the same problem with my Nikon 7600 camera, but I understand what you are saying. My elderly friend has Picture It! a Microsoft software that if he sends me his pictures from it, I cannot open them. The reason for this is that I have Microsoft Office [Small Business] 2003 and Microsoft, in its wisdom, omitted some features that are included in Microsoft Office XP. So there you have it. Unless we all use the same software, which is highly unlikely, there will be people who cant open pictures because of the picture extensions. Your situation on the other hand, might be resolved if you upload your pictures to other software than your camera supplied. Have you tried joining a Yahoo Photographic group and sharing your problem with them there? Maybe others here can offer a suggestion about what software you might use.
