NT based systems don't inheritly have this problem because the

Since I started using XT I have had very few lock ups and/or crashes.
Maybe no crashes. Compared to Win 3.x the improvement is remarkable.
What i want to know is what took MS so long. In an industry where
they owned the OS market, it is unconscionable that they did not fix
the problem sooner. Of course there were things that militated
against fixing the problems [I assume]. The need for compatibility
between older and newer hardware and software was one. When 95 came
out I thought that this was supposed to get rid of the resource heap
problem but it only improved things marginally. 98 and SE were
supposed to be better, or at least I hoped they'd be and I guess they
were. Some people said they liked 98 better than XP. People saw ME as
a disaster, I didn't. It seemed no worse than any previous OS. AND it
had the built in .zip compression. I loved that. Of course we had
PKZIP and WinZip but built in compression of files and folders was a
great tool. Ironic that I am writing this on my new MAC MINI.
