Hi. I have a buddy that lives out of town. He has an Emachine (one year
old). From what I can understand, he has partitioned his 80 gig hard
drive and has Xp, win2k and linux on it. I could be wrong but I am sure
that this is what he said. The drive worked fine. Today he tried adding
a 15 gig second hard drive that had no os. He has two rom drives and a
floppy drive. He used the cable that has only the hd connected to it to
connect the second hard drive. The 80 gig was connected to the middle
socket and the 15 gig to the end socket of the ribbon cable. The 15 gig
had two jumpers, one on 'master' and one on 'slave'. He removed the
master jumper to make the drive the slave. On boot he got an error
saying 'no os installed' so he switched the jumpers to make it a master.
Same thing. He then put both jumpers on like that which came with the
drive and had the same problem. He gave up and took the second drive
out. He still has the same problem now. If he boots to xp it says 'no
os' and if he boots to win2k it says 'no hard disk'. He tried fdisk but
it says no hard disk. He put his xp restore disk in and it starts doing
it's thing but then brings up a window that says it is looking for
'a:\ghost.txt'. He said he has never run ghost. He is stumped. The only
thing I could think of were the cable connections but he says they are
fine, the way they were before he tried adding the 2cd hard drive. He
has a P4 2.4 gig cpu with 512 megs of ram. Any thoughts? I was thinking
maybe a low level cleaning like killdisk or something and starting fresh
but thought I'd ask you guys first.

Sorry for the cross post

Mick
